Geschiedenis van de Midi
De regio Midi-Pyrénées is een samenraapsel van verschillende gebieden met een lange historie. Tot het jaar
1789 behoorde het noordelijke deel bij de toenmalige provincie Guyenne [ ooit Aquitanië ], het zuidwesten tot
Gascogne en het zuidoosten met daarbij de stad Toulouse grotendeels tot de Languedoc. Het uiterste zuiden bestond uit het graafschap Foix [ Comté de Foix ].
De graven van Toulouse waren in de 12de eeuw de machtigste heersers van Zuid-Frankrijk tot ze in de oorlogen met de Katharen verslagen werden. De Katharen ofwel Albigenzen hadden in deze buurt hun
hoofdvestiging.
