Between sea and land, the facets of La Manche are varied and ever changing : the Cotentin peninsula to the
very North, the Marshlands Nature Park , the Coutances area of the River Vire Valley offer colourful and
harmonious landscapes. To the South, the Mortainais area offers a tortured landscape, whereas in the Bay of

During the French Revolution, all the books from the Mont-Saint-Michel abbey were deposited for safekeeping in the town of Avranches. Among them are 200 medieval parchment manuscripts.
