The airport of Lesvos "Odysseas Elytis" is situated 8 kilometres south of Mytilene. Daily flights are linking the island to Athens and one daily to Thessaloniki.

Panagiakerk torent op een steile rots hoog boven het stadje uit. Naar het westen toe stonden ooit enorme bomen, waarvan nog enkele overblijfselen zijn te zien in het versteende woud [ 15 miljoen jaar geleden door vulkaanas ingesloten en versteend hout ].

Located to the west of the island. The Byzantine castle, the beautiful beach of Romeikos Yialos [ Hellenic Tourist Organization beach ] and cobbled streets are charming sights for the visitor.
Mytilini has a port with ferries to the nearby islands of Lemnos and Chios [ and Ayvalıik in Turkey ].

This village has a lot of old mansions and is known for the Bull Festival that has been celebrated since more than two hundred years. Near the village lay ruins of an ancient temple of Napaios Apollo and the ruins of an Ionian temple dated from the 3rd century BC. This temple was dedicated to Zeus, Hera and Dionysos.

The island of Ayios Efstratios is 21 miles north of Limnos, with approximately 300 inhabitants was named after the missionary who taught there.
It has beautiful coasts and long sandy beaches that alternate with steep rocks.

Niet ver van Sigri vind je de stad Eressos. Its port, Skala Eressos, is a famous resort with a magnificent beach . The volcanic character of the west side of Lesvos is shown in the dark grey color of the beach. The town is famed in history for being the birthplace of Sappho, the legendary lyric poetess also called the "Tenth Muse".

Sappho was een lyrische dichteres uit het antieke Griekenland. Ze was afkomstig uit Mytilene, de hoofdstad van het eiland Lesbos. Ooit richtte zij een soort "kostschool" op waar aristocratische meisjes een elitaire vorming werd bijbracht die was gebaseerd op muziek, poëzie en dans. De sfeer van intimiteit tussen Sappho en haar leerlingen bezorgde haar de reputatie "lesbisch" te zijn...
