This attractive market town of approximately 18500 inhabitants stands in the very centre of the Cheshire Plain and at the junction of the Rivers Dane and Weaver. Tot de Industriële revolutie was Runcorn een klein en afgelegen plaatsje. In de late 18de en vroege 19de eeuw was het een soort van Spa.  Widnes - industriestad in de borough of Halton
Located on the northern bank of the River Mersey where the estuary narrows to form Runcorn Gap.
 Wilmslow - south of the city of Manchester, between Alderley Edge and Handforth.
Wilmslow is part of the so-called Golden Triangle in the north west together with Hale and Bowdon. It grew in popularity in the Victorian era as a most desirable area for wealthy Manchester businessmen to move out to once the railways arrived and connected the towns.

Chester Cathedral boasts one of the finest monastic complexes in the country as well as outstanding Medieval woodwork in the Quire. There are magnificent Victorian mosaics on the north wall of the Nave and spectacular stained glass windows.
