Northern Arizona is dominated by the Colorado Plateau, the southern border of which in Arizona is called the Mogollon Rim. In the West lies the Grand Canyon.
In the East are the very large Hopi and Navajo reservations. The two largest cities are Kingman and Flagstaff.
Much of the territory is parkland, reservations, or other federally-administered lands. Major attractions in
addition to the Grand Canyon include the cliff dwellings of Canyon de Chelly, and Meteor Crater.

copyrighted the name "Home of Kartchner Caverns State Park". The 3,585-foot elevation creates a moderate climate, with summer highs around 96 degrees and winter days about 62 degrees.

Tucson, Arizona - City of Tucson
Tucson, too SAHN or TOO sahn, is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Tucson was orginally an
Indian village called Stook-zone, meaning water at the foot of black mountain. Hugo O'Conor established the
Tucson Presidio in 1775. August 20th, 1775 is considered Tucson's birthday. Spanish settlers arrived in the
area in 1776. Tucson officially became part of the United States with the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. Tucson served as capital of the Arizona Territory from 1867 to 1877.
Yuma, Arizona - City of Yuma
Located at the point where the Gila and Colorado Rivers converge, Yuma originated as a major transportation
hub, as goods came from the west coast and were shipped up river. Since prehistoric times, Yuma has been
the best site for crossing the Colorado River - Spanish conquistadors traveled this route in the 1500's and the
only Ocean to Ocean bridge was constructed here in 1920, linking the Eastern U.S. and the West Coast. Today thousands converge upon our river to enjoy various recreation water activities.

Lowell Observatory is a privately owned astronomical research institution located in Flagstaff, Arizona at an
elevation of 7,250 feet. The Observatory was founded in 1894 by Boston mathematician Percival Lowell. Best
known for the discovery of Pluto, Lowell Observatory is also where astronomer V.M. Slipher gathered the first evidence that the universe is expanding.
