 Great Basin National Park
From the sagebrush at its alluvial base to the 13,063-foot summit of Wheeler Peak, Great Basin National Park includes streams, lakes, alpine plants, abundant wildlife, a variety of forest types including groves of ancient bristlecone pines, and numerous limestone caverns, including beautiful Lehman Caves. This wild and beautiful land is a great place to spend a day, a week, or more. Basic information follows. Explore the pages of this site to learn more about the park and the opportunities it offers.

 Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge
Located approximately 90 miles north of Las Vegas in Lincoln County, Nevada. Located within the Pacific Flyway, Pahranagat NWR was established to provide habitat for migratory birds, especially waterfowl. Pahranagat's lakes and marshes are a rare sight in this part of Nevada.
Pahranagat's water originates from large springs to the north of the refuge and is managed to obtain the most value for wildlife. Various types of wetland habitats support many plants favored as food by over 230 species of migratory birds and other resident wildlife. The refuge has four main water impoundments: North Marsh, Upper and Lower Pahranagat Lakes, and the Middle Marsh.

Nevada's capital offers more than you might think. Carson City's rustic beginnings as a frontier town shine bright with history, museums and events and more.
Like many towns in Nevada, Carson City was founded in the boom days of mining -- in the case of Carson City, silver mining. It was the county seat of the former (1861-1969) Ormsby County, and was named for explorer Kit Carson. The largest nearby city is Reno.

 Great Basin Nevada
Part of a large, arid region of the western United States, commonly defined as the contiguous watershed region, roughly between the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada.
The Basin has remained among the most sparsely-inhabited areas of the United States. The two largest cities in the basin are Salt Lake City, Utah on its eastern edge and Reno, Nevada on its western edge. Smaller cities in the basin include Carson City, Nevada; Winnemucca, Nevada; Elko, Nevada; Ogden, Utah; Provo, Utah; and Logan, Utah. See for more info USGS and / or Desertislands.org.
 Mojave Woestijn
The Mojave Desert occupies a smaller part of southern Nevada. To determine your entry is by observing the presence of Joshua Trees. The Mojave Desert contains a number of ghost towns. Las Vegas, Nevada is the Mojave's largest city and metropolitan area. Incorporated cities include Boulder City, Henderson, Jean, North Las Vegas, Laughlin, Pahrump, and Primm
The Mojave Desert receives less than 6 inches (150 mm) of rain a year and is generally between 3,000 and 6,000 feet (1,000 and 2,000 m) in elevation.
Lake Tahoe [ Meer van tahoe ]  -  Lake Tahoe Travel & Tourism
Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America.
Las Vegas Valley

Death Valley  -  Death Valley Chamber of Commerce
A wonderland that stretches as far as the eye can see - where you can soak up spectacular sunsets and star-filled nights and the only sound you hear is the caw of the raven. Immerse yourself in nature - tour historic museums - relax in a hot bath, a luxurious Inn or on a golf course.
Pack your hiking boots - your palette and paints - your camera - your birding books and binoculars - your journal - your star maps - your bike - your tent - your 4WD vehicle. Guaranteed you'll leave your troubles behind after entering the land of Death Valley and Beyond…
 The Solitudes - Pioneer Territory
Nevada's Pioneer Territory just may be the last place where visitors can find the true spirit of the Old West. The Pioneer Territory covers the South-Central third of Nevada (and a small sliver of California), a part of the state spotted with historic mining towns, vast scenic vistas, and geologic wonderlands.
Its natural attractions spread over 38,000 square miles of mostly public land, range from Death Valley National Park, containing the lowest and hottest point in the United States to the arctic tundra of Boundary Peak in the White Mountains, the highest mountains in the Great Basin and highest point in Nevada at 13,140 feet.

 Douglas County
Douglas County is the site of some of Nevada's earliest development. Many small communities are scattered along the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, remnants of some of the first towns in the state. A good number of these communities were established in the 1850's as trading posts and centers of ranching and farming. Genoa, originally known as Mormon Station, is the oldest of these and was settled in 1851.
Esmeralda County  -  zie ook Death Valley Chamber of Commerce
Located halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, is the home to many mining communities and ghost towns. Surrounded by rugged mountain wilderness, vast open basins and rich mines. Esmeralda County offers a variety of spectacular scenery, a comfortable lifestyle and an excellent business climate. Goldfield, the principal city of Esmeralda County, is in fact a gold field of opportunity for businesses.
 Eureka County
If you like fresh high desert air, stunning mountain views and no traffic congestion, you'll love Eureka County. Located in central Nevada, Eureka County is comprised of three towns : Eureka, Beowawe and Crescent Valley.
 Humboldt County
Humboldt County is located in the rugged high desert region of north-central Nevada, bordered on the north by Oregon and by neighboring Nevada counties to the west, south and east.
 Lander County
Situated in the center of the state, the Lander County region attracted prospectors fanning out across the Great Basin after the 1859 discovery of the Comstock Lode. The County originally encompassed the eastern third of the State and was called "The Mother of Counties." It was later divided into the Counties of Lander, Eureka, White Pine, and Elko.
Lander County claims fame to celebrations and events which include Austin Gridley Days, the Claim Jumpers Bike Festival, the Pony Express Open Road Rally, the Human Powered Race, Kington Chukar Day, the Covered Wagon Days Trail Ride, the annual Basque Dinner and Picnic, the Performing Arts Crab Feed, the Community Christmas Celebration, the 4th of July Festival, the Lander County Fair and it's newest event, the Chukar Tournament and Feed.
Lincoln County [ overheid ]  -  Visit Lincoln County Nevada - VVV in Oost-Nevada
"The towns of Lincoln County Nevada are as different and colorful as the country itself. Alamo and the beautiful Pahranagat Valley, Caliente and its magnificent mission-style railroad depot, Panaca's rich pioneer history, Pioche and its outlaw image and Rachel located on the Extraterrestrial Highway. These towns are ready to greet the adventurous traveler."
Lyon County - s zie ook Pioche, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce
Mineral County [ overheid ] - Mineral County - KvK van Hawthorne [ Toerisme ]
At an elevation of 4255 feet, Hawthorne's high desert location ensures mild local weather since the surrounding mountain ranges protect it from the effects of Pacific storms. To the west is the Wassuk Range, capped by beautiful 11,239-ft. Mt. Grant. To the northwest the Gillis Range peaks span from 5,000 to 7,000 ft. These mountain ranges, as well as the nearby Garfield Hills and the Sierra Nevadas, are "protectors" of Hawthorne's weather. Temperatures are relatively mild in the winter and warm during the summer. The sun shines an average of 360 days each year.
 Nye County
Nye County was created in 1864 from Esmeralda County and is the largest county in the State of Nevada consisting of 18,294 square miles. It was named in honor of James Warren Nye, Governor of Nevada Territory and a United States Senator from Nevada.
 Pershing County
Pershing County offers plenty for sportsmen - including large game - deer and antelope; small game - rabbits, chukkar, sagehen, geese and ducks; also gamefish - walleye, catfish, crappie and bass.
Rock hounds, bottle diggers, metal detectors, explorers and spelunkers can enjoy forgotten camps, deserted town sites and mines, fossil areas and our vast sage-scented deserts.
For all those who enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, boating and swimming Rye Patch State Park is east of Lovelock. A motocross course is located near the Giant Tufa Park west of Lovelock.
Interesting places to visit close-by include the wildlife viewing routes, the Lovelock Historic Walking Tour, the Marzen House Museum, the GiantTufa Park, and the Lovelock IndianCaves.
 Storey County
Legends of the Old West don't get any richer than they are here. Storey County earned its place on the map in 1859 when miners discovered the largest deposit ever found of gold and silver in Virginia City, which pumped nearly half a billion dollars into the economy of the United States. This discovery ultimately heralded Storey County's Virginia City/Gold Hill as "The Richest Place on Earth." Long after the gold and silver rush became a memory, Storey County was left with a thriving tourism market that continues to attract over 1.6 million visitors annually.
White Pine County [ overheid ] - White Pine Tourism [ KvK / VVV ]
Here you'll find information about one of the most interesting and beautiful areas in the west. From the spectacular grandeur of the Great Basin National Park to the quiet serenity of Cave Lake State Park... From the historic mining towns of McGill and Ruth to the 24-hour night life of Ely... We have a wonderful place to visit and live.

Fallon was born during the California Gold Rush when exhausted travelers stopped along the Carson River after crossing the 40-Mile Desert, one of the deadliest stretches along the Emigrant Trail. The spot on the river was called "Ragtown" because of the clothes and blankets that were seen drying, hanging from wagons and in the trees. Present day Fallon is just six miles east of that early settlement.
Fallon is the queen city on Highway 50, the "Loneliest Road in America." This east-west scenic byway that parallels the original Pony Express route is filled with interesting people and places that define the "other side" of Nevada.

The breath-taking sunsets with the picturesque Mt. Charleston and the Spring Mountains to the east and the Nopah Vista Mountains to the west are a sight to behold. There are ample recreational opportunities associated with these mountains.
Pioche - Pioche Chamber of Commerce [ KvK ]
Pioche ( pronounced - pee-oach) is located 180 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Hanging on the side of a mountain in Nevada's high desert, it enjoys old-west charm, mild summertime temperatures, fine trout fishing, hunting, and some of Nevada's most scenic state parks. Pioche is an old town by western standards, with many of the buildings predating the turn of the century. Pioche is far enough from the beaten track to escape the blatant commercialism that has plagued many tourist towns, but yet it has enough facilities to handle the modest summer crowds.

 Great Basin Heritage Route
The Fremont, Shoshone, Utah and Paiute Indians, the explorers, trappers, miners, farmers and ranchers… all traveled through this area. Some, finding a way to live, stayed and made their homes here. The sublime attractions of the high desert valleys and mountains were irresistible. They found hidden treasures in this semi-arid region -- the soothing green of a mountain stream, the jewel of an alpine lake tucked behind a high ridge, the subtle colors of the landscape washed with wildflowers in a wet year, singed with earth tones in a drought.
 Mohave Phone Booth
The Mojave phone booth was a lone telephone booth placed circa 1960 in the Mojave National Preserve which attracted an online following in 1997 due to its unusual location. The booth was 15 miles from the nearest interstate highway, and miles from any buildings. Its phone number was originally +1-619-733-9969, before the area code changed to 760. See also Mojave Phone Booth official movie site
The booth was removed on May 17, 2000 by Pacific Bell, at the request of the National Park Service.
