 Kakadu National Park
De naam 'Kakadu' komt van een Aboriginal verdronken-landtaal 'Gagudju'genaamd, die één van de talen was die in het noorden van het park aan het begin van het twintigste-eeuwse gesproken werd.
Kakadu is een cultureel landschap. Het werd door de geestelijke voorouders van de Aboriginals geschapen tijdens de Creatie Tijd. Deze voorouders of 'eerst mensen' reisden over het land en creëerden landforms, planten, dieren en Bininj/Mungguy* [ Aboriginal people ]. Zij brachten daarmee wetten tot leven door: ceremonie, taal, verwantschap en ecologische kennis. Zij onderrichtte Bininj/ Mungguy hoe met het land te leven en hoe op het land te passen.
