De GOR ligt aan de zuidkust, tussen Warrnambool en Geelong. De meeste Australiërs reizen via de Great Ocean Road van Adelaide naar Melbourne. De kust bestaat hier voor een groot deel uit kalksteen, er steken dan ook veel bizarre kalksteenformaties uit de zee omhoog. Net voor Port Campbell liggen de London Bridge [ een kalkstenen natuurlijke brug die de zee in liep, maar in 1990 ineengestort ]. Voorbij Port Campbell ligt de bekendste attractie aan de Great Ocean Road, de Twelve Apostles [ 12 rotsen die uit de zee ophoog rijzen, waarvan je er 7 vanaf het vaste land kunt zien.

 Ned Kelly (1855 - 11 november 1880)
Kelly, in 1880 ter dood veroordeeld en opgehangen, is de meest bekende 'bushranger' van Australië en voor veel Australiërs een volksheld vanwege zijn strijd tegen de toenmalige koloniale autoriteiten.
In 2009 heeft men zijn lichamelijke resten op basis van DNA-materiaal uit een massagraf vlakbij de Pentridge gevangenis gehaald en in 2013 officieel herbegraven op een begraafplaats in Greta. Zie verder Wikipedia over Ned Kelly
