Opal was first found in Coober Pedy on the 1st of February 1915 and since then has been supplying the world with the majority of gem quality opal. Coober Pedy today relies as much on tourism as the opal mining industry to provide the community with employment and sustainability.
Coober Pedy is probably best known for its unique style of underground living. There is a range of underground accommodation (as well as above ground if you prefer). There are authentic underground homes to explore as well as underground museums, potteries, opal shops, an art gallery and, of course, opal mines.
 Glenelg  -  City of Holdfast Bay [ coastal towns of Brighton and Glenelg. ]
The suburb of Glenelg is located on the beach, west of Adelaide. It takes approximately twenty minutes by car, and twenty to thirty minutes on the Glenelg Tram from Victoria Square in the heart of Adelaide.
Glenelg is an important piece of South Australia's history as this is where Governor Hindmarsh proclaimed the colony. Historical landmarks such as The Buffalo Replica ship and the Old Gum Tree should not be missed. The suburb also has a lot of magnificent architecture and beautiful churches. Glenelg offers a range of attractions ranging from the its historical sites, an excellent range of restaurants and cafes [ Jetty Road ], Magic Mountain - a mini fun park and of course its beautiful beach and jetty.
 Holdfast Bay -  City of Holdfast Bay  - Coast Adelaide
 Mount Gambler
The volcanic district around Mount Gambler has numerous lakes, views and lookouts. Among them are Browne's Lake, Valley Lake, Leg of Mutton Lake and the Blue Lakes. There are many good lookouts, the best being the Centenary Tower opened in 1904 and is equipped with a powerful telescope for viewing the district.
 Port Augusta  -  City Council
Port Augusta is situated on the quiet waterways at the head of the Spencer Gulf, in close proximity to the spectacular Flinders Ranges. Off to the west and south-west lie a range of hills which once marked the territory of the Nakuma Aboriginal tribe to the north-west are two remarkable flat-topped mounts, peacefully lying underneath the sky's vast blue canopy.

Once the main port of the South Australian coast and the access point for all goods travelling up and down the Murray River. Now one of the major tourist destinations in South Australia.
