** Praia do Futuro, het meest populaire strand van Ceará, grenzend aan Fortaleza, kenmerkt zich door een ca. 8 km lang zandstrand met mooie 'barracas' (strandtenten).
Vooral in het weekeinde heerst daar overdag een zeer levendige sfeer met surfende, beachballende en voetballende Brazilianen, die genieten van de heerlijke zon en het lauwe water van de Atlantische oceaan.
** Tibau do Sol [ een rustiek dorpje niet ver van Pipa ] biedt voor de rust- en natuurzoekers een aantal prima hotels. Dit dorpje ligt aan de lagune die uitmondt op zee en biedt werkelijk ongekende vergezichten. Hier kunt u genieten van een heerlijke maaltijd of drankje met uitzicht op de lagune en ziet u regelmatig de dolfijnen hun kunsten vertonen!

No other state in Brazil offers such a large diversity of beautiful landscapes as Ceará. Beaches, the outback, mountains and historical cities come together to form one of the most beautiful regions in Brazil.
The surprises begin at the seashore, one of the largest in Brazil, 573 km long. Explored by the Portuguese colonists of the seventeenth century, Ceará's coast is rich in dunes, cliffs, coconut-trees and fresh-water ponds. Even at the coast there is diversity with urbanized beaches as Iguape and Icaraí contrasting with paradises still barely changed by man's hand such as Jericoacoara e Quixaba.
Away from the coast, Ceará has the most surprising landscapes. At the mountains the tourist will a mild climate and great inns, all surrounded by the exuberance of the local vegetation, one of the last points in Brazil where the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) still persists. The mountainous regions are ideal for ecological tourism. Cities such as Ubajara and Guaramiranga possess areas of environmental protection.

Three thousand hours of sun per year and the constant ocean breeze gives the full dimension of this paradise. For those who have more energy, the nightlife is full of attraction, with bars, restaurants, and shows. Not even on Mondays Fortaleza cools down. The city is known for having the "wildest Monday nights in the world." The Praia of Iracema (Iracema's beach), one of the first urban nucleuses of the city, holds most of the bars and restaurants. There, the Ponte dos Ingleses (English's Bridge), the old docks, is located and used to watch the sunset and spot dolphins.
The Praia do Futuro (Beach of the Future) is the meeting place for the bathers, concentrating a large number of typical beachside restaurants, with carnauba straw used in its construction. The local population calls them "Barracas de Praia." Thursday nights, the beach becomes the biggest sensation in the capital's nightlife, with live music, forró and a lot of crab to eat. With string winds the Praia do Futuro is an excellent place for nautical sports. Fortaleza hosts world competitions of surfing and windsurfing.

De naam Recife (Rif) wordt al genoemd in de eerste Portugese dagboeken als haven van waaruit rode Brazilhout werd verscheept naar Portugal. De 'Heren Negentien' van de Hollandse Indisch Companie [ VOC ] vestigden zich in 1630 in Recife. Prins Maurits van Oranje vestigde zich als gouverneur. Ontwierp meteen een nieuwe stad, vanaf dat moment ook de hoofdstad van die provincie. Recife heeft dus een voor Brazilië lange geschiedenis met veel belangrijke cultuurmomenten. Maurits is er zeven jaar gebleven. Als herinnering aan de Nederlandse stadsplannenmakerij zijn nog enkele straten te vinden met een Nederlandse naam. De moeite van een bezoek waard zijn zeker de tuinen gewijd en genoemd naar Maurício de Nassau, die in deze streken geliefd is en regelmatig wordt herdacht [ ook in het plaatselijke carnaval ].

Fernando de Noronha ligt ten oosten van de deelstaat Rio Grande do Norte en bestaat uit 21 eilanden. Native Indians developed corn porridge, cassava meal, sweet potatoes, many roots, hearts of palm, many species of game and fish, and the preservation of meats by smoking and drying. In 1533, the Portuguese colonized Brazil. After a lengthy Moorish occupation, Portugal had adapted a variety of North African cooking traditions, among them coffee, dried fruits and pastries. In 1500 ontdekte de Portugeze zeevaarder Pedro Alvarez Cabral Brazilië. Tussen 1500 en 1530 eiste Portugal Brazilië voor zich op. In 1530 werd het een Portugese kolonie en dat bleef zo tot in 1815.

 Samba
the origins of samba can be found in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. It was born in the houses of "aunts" from Bahia who settled in downtown Rio, from lundu descent, in religious parties and capoeira meetings, with tambourine and clap beats. The region where they lived was known as "Little Africa". Although previous recordings had been registered as samba, the song Pelo Telefone, recorded in 1917, is credited as being the style's milestone.
